Great Ocean Road

For our trip along the Great Ocean Road we hired a great van, it was cheaper than a hostel would have been and it looked just wicked.

The Great Ocean Road goes mainly like this along the South coast of Victoria

I did this trip together with Eugen, who lives not that far away from the place where I’ve grown up, but we met the first time at the hostel in Melbourne.

Somewhere between Torquay and Apollo Bay

At a Beach somewhere between Torquay and Apollo Bay

The lighthouse at Cape Ottawa

We missed a beautiful sunset at the 12 Apostles for about 3 bloody minutes

So it was time for a fabulous dinner

And we went to the 12 Apostles at sunrise again

Then it was time for breakfast, isn’t it again a nice spot for a brekkie

Just another view

While having a coffee, we thought a helicopter flight would be nice.

Ok it cost us as much as the van for 5 days, but we thought it is worth it.

I gave the last instructions to the pilot

then we took off

the red dot is the place where we stayed during the night and were we had our brekkie

Twelve Apostles…

London Bridge

Bay of Islands, from there we drove back to Melbourne

Philippi Island

For the reason that Aussies use short forms for heaps of words like barbie (BBQ), chewie (chewing gum) or arvo (afternoon),
I strongly believe that Philipp Island is the short form of Philippi Island.

Anyway we hired motorbikes to go there

As the way down to Philippi Island just goes straight ahead like this, we were happy about any roundabout, as they were the only curves on our way to Philippi Island.

This is actually a pic from the Great Ocean Road, but hey who cares, I don’t have a pic of the road down to Philippi Island.

First we visited a wildlife park

I think it’s a Wallaby – I can’t distinguish them from small Kangaroos

A Koala – at least he is awake…

Someone in this picture looks goofy…

at the nobbies

I think I should put this pic on my cv and try to get a job at a bank

There was at least something like a curve, so we took pictures on the bikes

At sunset we went to the famous penguin parade. About 800 small penguins come out of the sea and walk across the beach to their burrows. I don’t have any pictures of them as it is not allowed to take pictures there.

Tassie

During the mid-semester-break, we went down to Tassie

Our departure with the Spirit of Tasmania from Port Melbourne.

The journey to Tassie was during the day. Thus although it’s always five o’clock somewhere, our regular order was 2 long black, 2 flat white and one tea instead of five beers.

We arrived with a beautiful sunset

We thought a nice 4 WD would be acceptable for our trip around Tassie.

The first night we spent in a hostel which was at the same time an Irish Pub, god bless Lonley Planet!

The next day we got invited to a fabulous barbie at this place –
Tasmanian hospitality just wonderful

isn’t it a nice spot for a brekkie?

2 long black, 2 flat white and one tea later we were prepared to walk up the hill and have this beautiful view over wineglass bay

At the time we saw this sign,
I was pretty sure that we lost our way,

but there are lots of towns with great names. Wouldn’t it be great to live in Paradise?

view from Mt Wellington over Hobart

Instead of all the dead Kangaroos next to the road, this was the first Kangaroo I saw.

Ok it’s a pretty ugly one and it looks more like a big rat, but I prefer to see an ugly Kangaroo in the wild than a beautiful one in a zoo.

Ok, some more wildlife....

a Wombat

Possums

a Tasmanian devil

somewhere in the Lake St. Clair National Park

Cradle Mountain

at our departure from Tassie we had a beautiful sunset as well
